The 2010 AGH World Film Festival
In 2010, we expanded the AGH World Film Festival, growing to ten days and over 37 feature films, and increasing the number of screening venues throughout the city of Hamilton, including locations in downtown Hamilton (Empire Jackson Square 6 Cinemas and the Art Gallery of Hamilton), west Hamilton (Westdale Theatre), Ancaster (Ancaster SilverCity), Hamilton Mountain (Mohawk College, Fennell Campus), and Stoney Creek (Mohawk College, STARRT Institute). From Friday, September 24th through Sunday, October 3rd, the AGH World Film Festival highlights:
- International films, including some of the world’s best-regarded recent films;
- African films and films of the Diaspora, an integral part of Vital Africa, the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s year-long celebration of African arts and culture and its influence on the world. Toronto International Film Festival co-director Cameron Bailey has graciously offered to advise the AGH on the selection of these films for the 2010 festival;
- Screenings and activities for children and families;
- The Spotlight Series, a series of themed screenings;
- The Ancaster Series, a series of films screening at Ancaster SilverCity;
- Cinema Hamilton, an evening showcasing local film and video.
The 2010 AGH World Film Festival also included two gala screenings (on Friday, September 24th and Friday, October 1st), a VIBE Lounge (a licensed, drop-in café and lounge at the Gallery for festival-goers to meet before or after screenings for conversation, refreshments, and live music, and street-level performances in celebration of the Festival.
